Woah. Sometimes I forget what nature is all about. I spent a full day in the snow with no human-nothing around me. I feel transformed, renewed, alive. It was freaking cold and was not the kind of day I expected, but I still found solace at Mount Baldy. :D Nature always puts my life in perspective.
So let's get inspired to eat right. I love this trailer for Raw for 30 Days because it really demonstrates the POWER OF FOOD... WATCH IT:
So after my farmer's market excursion, like after most grocery runs, I cleaned my fridge and loaded it up and didn't really feel like cooking a major dish, so went for the staple recipe of easy poached eggs with greens. Here's how you poach an egg:
Once cooked, put the poached eggs (however many you want) in a bowl. Then in a sauce pan filled with two tablespoons of boiling water, throw in a couple leaves of kale and one collard green leaf. Cover with a lid and leave to steam for a quick couple minutes. Then add a few drops of olive oil in the same pan, saute quickly and put the greens in the bowl on top of the eggs. I cut up a few cherry tomatoes and added salt and pepper for taste and devoured in about 30 seconds. Literally took maybe 7 min. to make - - the easiest thing ever, but so good.
It was one of those evenings where no matter how much I ate I was still hungry, so ended up eating more steamed kale with sea salt and pepper, 3 tangerines (no more left) and finally fell asleep while eating prunes and walnuts and watching One Flew Over the Cuckoo Nest... excellent combo.
"There is an amazing connection between the health of our body and its connection to the earth. All of us need to be grounded and connected to nature because when we are, we're healthier."
For the past three years I was scared to use any type of skin product on my face because of my adult acne, which is now almost entirely under control due to proper diet and nutrition. I only washed my face with a warm washcloth, used coconut oil as eye makeup remover and anti-aging cream around the eyes, but my skin elsewhere was looking very dry and dull. I had yet to find a face lotion that didn't cause major break-outs until a month ago when I went to Sephora and spent about two hours with a girl who helped me find the best natural makeup and skin products. I decided since I'm pushing 30, that preventative care is the best medicine for wrinkles, sun-damage, etc. The facial product that I was introduced to and really love is Jurlique (Australia). Jurlique is a bit pricier than your standard drug store products, but for someone like me who shops primarily at GDubs (Goodwill), brings lunch to work every day, cooks at home 90% of the time and without a car, I have absolutely no problem dishing out the dough for my health and that includes my stomach (food), skin, hair, etc. I am so pleased with the results. Jurlique products feel and smell wonderful and so gentle on the skin.
I love a company that is equally conscious about the health of their customer while showing love and respect for Mother Earth.
